Alaskan Malamutes

The Alaskan Malamute, the largest and oldest of the Arctic sled dogs, possesses great strength and endurance, is a powerful and substantially built dog with a deep chest and strong, well-muscled body. The Malamute must be a heavy boned dog with sound legs, good feet, powerful shoulders, and have all of the other physical attributes necessary for the efficient performance of his job. The gait must be steady, balanced, tireless and totally efficient. The Alaskan Malamute was named after the native Inuit tribe called Mahlemuts, who settled in Alaska. They have always been used as sled dogs for heavy freighting in the Arctic. The Alaskan Malamutes has in social behavior and looking many similarities to the wolf.
